The National Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training concluded its participation in the National Conference for the Development of Technical and Vocational Education and Training in Palestine, organized by Tamkeen for Training and Development on 2–3 August 2026 under the theme: “Developing Technical and Vocational Education and Training… A Driver for Economic and Social Empowerment in Palestine.”

The Commission’s participation reaffirmed its national role in leading efforts to develop the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system and strengthen governance and coordination among the various stakeholders in the sector. These efforts contribute to building an integrated national system that responds effectively to labor market needs and the requirements of economic and social development.

The Commission was represented at the conference by its Vice President, Dr. Eng. Hisham Salama, who emphasized in his remarks during the opening session that the conference reflects a shared national commitment to advancing the TVET system and strengthening its role in developing Palestinian human capital and enabling individuals to contribute effectively to the development process. He noted that TVET has become a strategic choice for achieving economic and social development and for preparing qualified national professionals capable of keeping pace with rapid transformations in technology and labor markets.

Dr. Salama also presented the Commission’s role, strategic directions, and priorities for developing the sector, foremost among them strengthening governance, national policies and strategies, implementing the National Qualifications Framework (NQF), developing sector-specific skills, and expanding work-based learning and training. He also highlighted efforts to advance the national skills system, support digital transformation, and build capacities in priority areas, including renewable energy, technology, and innovation.

The Commission’s participation also highlighted its efforts to align TVET outcomes with labor market needs and to promote employment, entrepreneurship, and innovation. These efforts aim to make the sector more responsive to economic and technological transformations and more capable of contributing to the development of a productive and resilient Palestinian economy.

In this context, the Commission emphasized that developing the TVET system represents a direct investment in Palestinian people and their capabilities, and constitutes one of the fundamental pillars for strengthening resilience and sustainable development. This is particularly important under the current circumstances, which have created growing needs for rebuilding capacities and preparing the skilled workforce required to support recovery and reconstruction efforts in the Gaza Strip.

The Commission also participated in the conference’s closing session, during which the final recommendations and outcomes were presented. These outcomes provide a foundation for building on the practical proposals and perspectives discussed during the conference and for further strengthening national efforts to develop the TVET sector within an integrated vision led by the National Commission in partnership with all relevant stakeholders.
